These pics were taken Sunday morning at Willimstown about 6:30am.
The plan was to catch up with Ryan, (after he had finished moving house Sat morning), on Saturday evening to take Peregirine up to Melbourne in preparation for the double hander race, run out of Royal Brighton Yacht Club on Sunday.
Dispite Charlotte's intensive work all the week before the move took a little more time than expected, so the most expedient result was me taking 'P' to Melbourne on my own. Which was most enjoyable - Motored all the way in oily smooth seas and little wind. Dinner Willimastown, then to bed.
The race was could have been better - the wind was light at 5 to 7 knots, went well in the beginning, lousy in the middle and good in the end, but not good enough to undo the mid race damage.
Had to laugh a lot when we were called up by a red setter (dog) aboard a boat to leeward of us at one stage.
Still, great time.
We arrive back in Geelong Sunday evening in the dark about 7:30pm.
An encounter with a ship coming out of Corio Bay had us laughing:: Gerry and Ben O'Brien had also participated in the race and were returning that evening. They were about 20 minutes behind us by the time we were coming down Hopetown Channel. We saw the lights of the ship pretty well, bu they were obscured by the back lights of the city making is a little difficult to make the ship out. Anyway, after the ship had passed, I said to Ryan " Give Gerry a call on the phone and let him know the ship is coming down the channel'. No sooner had I said this, than the ship let out two blasts on its horn, to warn Gerry out of the way. Ryan's response was; "I don't think we need to call him now".
