We Visit Steve and Regan

After the big week sailing last week, there was no scheduled races for this week end. So we took the opportunity to visit Steve and Regan and deliver the work bench. Also helped Stev to assemble Owens Christmas present.

Here are some pics.

Beautiful Music

I am somewhat embarrassed that it has taken me so long to get Grants turntable working. It is a MICRO SEIKI BL-91 with a SAEC WE-308SX tonearm. He gave it to me without the 5 pin din to RCA lead. That's the one that goes from the tone arm to the amplifier. They are as rare as hens teeth. Each time I tried to procure one, it was like they never existed. The audio shops specialising in vintage equipment wanted big bucks for them. There are plenty of 5 pin din plugs around, but this one was a special. It is interesting; I thought that DIN was a standard - its not, it can be any multi pin plug and can vary in diameter and pin size and pin location. Go figure??? I finally made the connection cobbling together a bunch of parts. After several attempts - The result? - Excellent. The music from it when combined with the Marantz PM 94 is - well, just fabulous. I did the job on Sunday morning, then off for a sail, leaving Gaye going thru her old record collection rediscovering old friends and reliving some music memories.

Info on the Micro Seiki BL-91:
This completes the set up that grant generously gave to me.
The Amp is a Marantz PM 94 Limited. Built in 1988, this amp is considered even today to be a audiophile bench mark. See the links for details
