Log to Vase

When I hear a chainsaw in the neighbourhood, it is a good sign that there is a tree coming down and a possible source of turning timber. In this case it was right next door. They had a tree lopping service in to remove some paper bark trees. So, over the fence for a couple of logs before they went into the chipper. I saved a spider (who had a home in one of the logs) from the fate of the chipper - I ruined his home, but he still has his life, which I am glad of. The logs are big, but there is a lot of included bark so the final turned pieces are a little small. Very rewarding to turn - the shavings come away in thin streams and the finished timber is like alabaster.
